Fish for 10 gallon tank needs to be chosen wisely for the tank is quite small, and not all types can survive with each other. You might prefer a 10 gallon tank due to sundry reasons including low cost, less space occupancy, the requirement of fewer accessories and easiness in cleaning.

HOW TO CHOOSE 10 GALLON FISH TANK KIT
Once we have decided to set up a 10 gallon fish tank kit, the next thing is to consider the factors associated with the purchase. We can know the associated factors to consider from the buying guide described below:
Shape
When it comes to shape, we have many different choices for our 10 gallon tank. Generally, the rectangular tanks are presented in standard or tall shape. On the market, we may also find hexagon and half-moon shapes; these shapes are interesting to view. Based on the species we decide to stock, we need to consider the shape of the tank kit.
The fish species like betas or platies will make use of every level of water. They will work well in a tall tank. On the other hand, the tetras, danios or dwarf gouramis usually fit well in a standard 10 gallon fish tank kit.
Filter
When we decide to choose a filter, there are several aspects to consider. The first one includes the gallons per hour. When we carefully focus on the filter details, we will see filters marked with capacity. These ratings like up to 20 gallons, for example, denotes the number of gallons the particular filter can move per hour.
For a 10 gallon tank, we will need a filter that can move minimum 4 times the volume of the tank per hour. Therefore, for our 10 gallon tank, we will need a filter with at least 40 GPH. The more turnover is always a better idea. I usually prefer to filter my fish tank. So, I typically install filters that can turnover the water within the tank for 8-10 times per hour.
The Number of Fishes
The fish tank kit for 10-gallon tank works the best if the number of fishes is appropriate. Generally, we will need 1 gallon of space for each 1 inch of fish in the aquarium. For the average-sized fishes with length approx. 1 inch, we can fit10 small fish in a 10-gallon tank.
Lighting
There are many different types of lighting accessible for a 10-gallon fish tank kit. They include LED, fluorescent, and compact fluorescent. Based on our budget and needs, we can choose the preferred lighting options. The included fish and plants may have diverse lighting requirements.
Few fish species may be comfortable with bright lights, whereas others will need dimmer light. For a tank with a small capacity like 10 gallons, the LED lighting usually works the best. They usually last a long time and they emit bright light output. The best part about them that I admire a lot is they use less electricity.
Heater Features
According to my experience, there are two greatest factors regarding heater features. They include the air temperature of the room and the quality of the heater. The location of the tank is also an important feature to consider.
We can consider purchasing a 10-gallon fish tank having the temperature dial. This is because it makes it simpler to set and adjust the temperature. The presence of the indicator light will let you know whether the heating element is on or off. With the presence of shut off sensor, the heater will shut off automatically if it runs out of water.
Buckets
We may need to suck water out of our 10-gallon fish tank, so we need to put water somewhere. There is no need to drain excess water. So two buckets will work the best. When we decide to purchase the 10-gallon fish tank kit, we can consider the presence of 3-5 gallon buckets.
HOW MANY FISHES FOR 10 GALLON TANK?
A 10 gallon tank offers the perfect ecosystem to keep a wide variety of fishes. Though it’s small in size if you select the fishes wisely then you can accommodate a wide variety of them. Cories can be the best choice to keep in these tanks as they grow only 2-3 inches in size and are quite peaceful in nature too. Angelfish can be quite adorable but since they grow up to 1 feet they won’t be a good choice to keep in your tank. You can ideally include 2 angelfish, 2 cories, 6 neons, 2 black mollies, 1 pleco and 2 swordtails in 10 gallon tank.

One of the most prominent as well as significant steps amongst the entire process is the choice of fish for 10 gallon tank, which can prove to be quite an arduous task.

While all the types above are undoubtedly rich in beauty, care needs to be taken pertaining to how many types and which gender of these types needs to be chosen for a 10 gallon tank.
You can make considerable experiments with the stock ideas for 10 gallon tank provided they are healthy and not fatal to any organism. Some of the desirable combinations that can persist without a hitch in the tank include:
- 2 Dwarf Gourami

Some interesting advice-
Don’t ever think of adding fishes that are semi-aggressive in nature as they’ll degrade the environment of the tank.
Keep proper management of algae in your aquarium; otherwise, it can harm the growth of your fishes.
African cichlids might attract you because of their pretty color but never make a mistake of keeping them in your tank as they are quite complex and aggressive and can kill the other species.
A 10 gallon tank can thus possess pretty interesting mixes provided you make the right choice. You will be able to encompass little variety in your 10 gallon fish tank, making your tank a more secure and reserved one. It can be a great choice if you are a beginner in fishkeeping and don’t mind keeping it low-key.

How many mollie can I keep in my 10 gallon fish tank?
If mollies were the only kind of fish in a 10 gal tank then how many mollies would I be able to keep? It will be converted into a planted tank soon, and after my horrible guppy experiance I am looking in to some mollies instead. All I need is the appropriate numbers. I am interested in teh high fin mollies and the lyre tail mollies if that makes a different. Have never kept mollies before adn don’t know how big they get.
if you keep medium size mollies and want to mate them. And to keep them away from stress you should keep 4 mollies in 10 gallon tank.
Id never put mollies in a 10 gallon aquarium. They get too large and are too active. Id say that the minimum tank size for them would be a 20 gallon high. Id say that (if you don’t want guppies) that platies would be your best option. Id only get 2-3 though. And only get one male. I hope this helps. 🙂
